Meet the Tracking Elves

Christmas Eve may have one famous pilot, but behind Santa is an entire room of elves making sure the biggest flight of the year runs smoothly.

Christmas Eve may have one famous pilot, but behind Santa is an entire room of elves making sure the biggest flight of the year runs smoothly.

Welcome to the Tracking Team.

Navigation Elves

These elves are map experts. They study routes, geography, distances and time zones. During Santa’s flight, they watch his position and help calculate route changes when needed.

Weather Elves

The Weather Team monitors conditions around the world. They watch wind, snow, rain, clouds and storms, then send important updates to Navigation and Santa.

Communications Elves

If Mission Control needs to speak with Santa, these are the elves who make it happen. They monitor the sleigh communication system and make sure messages can travel between Santa and the North Pole.

Reindeer Monitors

Every member of Santa’s reindeer team has a flight status. Reindeer Monitors watch those signals and report anything unusual.

Sleigh Trackers

These elves keep their eyes on Santa’s location throughout the night. When the sleigh moves into a new region, the Tracking Board updates.

Mission Coordinators

They watch the whole operation. Navigation, weather, communications, reindeer and sleigh information all come together at the central command desk.

It takes concentration, teamwork and a remarkable ability to stay calm when twelve screens start blinking at once.

The elves train throughout December, practicing different situations so they know exactly what to do on Christmas Eve.

And when Santa finally returns home?

The Tracking Team is usually among the loudest elves cheering.
