Behind the Scenes: A Morning at the North Pole

People sometimes ask what my mornings look like at the North Pole. They are not quiet. I usually start with cocoa and the overnight reports. Reindeer Ranch sends me the morning training update.

People sometimes ask what my mornings look like at the North Pole.

They are not quiet.

I usually start with cocoa and the overnight reports. Reindeer Ranch sends me the morning training update. The Toy Factory reports what is finished, what is behind, and what somehow ended up covered in glitter. Santa’s Mail Station tells me how many new letters arrived.

Then I check in with the elves who keep everything moving.

Do we have enough supplies? Does anyone need extra help? Are there problems we should fix now before they become bigger problems later?

After that, I walk through the Village.

I might stop at the Toy Factory to look at a new invention, check the kitchen, visit the reindeer, answer a question from Mission Control, or remind Santa about something he definitely insists he already remembered.

Somewhere in there, I usually taste a cookie.

Quality control.

By lunchtime, the plan I made that morning has almost always changed at least once.

That is normal here.

Running the North Pole is not about making sure nothing ever goes wrong. It is about noticing what is happening, helping people work together, and keeping the important things important.

And yes, occasionally it is about locating Santa’s missing hat.
