Why Santa Doesn't Do Christmas Alone

Santa is wonderful at being Santa. But he does not do Christmas alone. The reindeer train all year. The Toy Factory elves build and test. The Mail Station sorts mountains of letters.

Santa is wonderful at being Santa.

But he does not do Christmas alone.

The reindeer train all year. The Toy Factory elves build and test. The Mail Station sorts mountains of letters. Mission Control watches weather and routes. Wrapping teams work through towers of boxes. Storytellers, cooks, caretakers, designers, organizers, and helpers all have a part.

And Santa?

He asks for help.

That might be one of his most important skills.

At the North Pole, we do not believe the person in front has to do everything. Being part of a team means trusting other people to bring their own strengths.

One elf may be brilliant at fixing things. Another is great at making nervous reindeer feel calm. Someone else can untangle Christmas lights without saying a single bad word, which I consider an extraordinary talent.

Families are teams, too.

People can help in different ways. Children can help. Grown-ups can help each other. Sometimes helping means doing a job. Sometimes it means giving someone space. Sometimes it means saying, “I need help.”

Christmas works because many hands, hooves, paws, and mittened fingers contribute.

Santa may drive the sleigh, but an entire North Pole helps it fly.
