Behind the Scenes: A Morning at Santa's Toy Factory

The first Toy Factory bell rings before breakfast. By the time most of the North Pole Village is waking up, the factory is already buzzing.

The first Toy Factory bell rings before breakfast.

By the time most of the North Pole Village is waking up, the factory is already buzzing.

6:30 A.M. The Morning Crew checks the production boards and makes sure every workstation has the supplies it needs.

7:00 A.M. The Build Teams arrive. Wheels roll. Stuffing fluffs. Blocks stack. Puzzle pieces click into place.

7:45 A.M. The first toys reach Quality Check.

8:15 A.M. Someone realizes the red ribbon cart is missing.

8:17 A.M. The red ribbon cart is discovered beside the cocoa machine.

Nobody knows why.

9:00 A.M. The Toy Inventor Lab begins testing new prototypes.

9:03 A.M. A prototype makes a suspicious squeaking noise.

9:04 A.M. Everyone takes three steps backward.

9:05 A.M. It is fine.

By midmorning, toys are moving from building stations to inspection stations and finally toward wrapping and delivery preparation.

It looks busy because it is busy.

But the Toy Factory is not powered by elves rushing as fast as possible.

It works because hundreds of elves have different jobs and help one another.

Some build. Some organize. Some test. Some repair. Some invent. Some keep track of supplies.

Christmas magic, it turns out, requires a truly impressive amount of teamwork.
